The community of Christ the King School reflects the changing demographics of Atlanta. We are a wonderful blend of families including parishioners, neighbors, newcomers to the city, and those whose families helped to found and build the beautiful Cathedral of Christ the King. Many of our parents and faculty are CKS alumni, giving the school a warm and friendly "family" feel. The school continues to reflect the spirit of hospitality that was the hallmark of the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart who staffed our school for over 53 years.
In keeping with the tradition of Catholic schools, learning at Christ the King School occurs in a nurturing, Christ-centered environment where daily prayer and character formation are highly valued features of our program. Our Catholic faith is integrated into learning throughout the day, so that students not only learn their faith but also put their faith into action. Students at every grade level are involved in service to the community. Some grades focus on the local community, while other projects, such as the seventh grade food drive, serve the larger Atlanta community. Grey Out days to raise money for the Grey Nuns, the Jingle Jog for the Cathedral St. Vincent de Paul Society, sandwich making, or holding infant clothing drives so that a needy mom can outfit her newborn, are just a few of the ways our students learn to reach out to others.
Curriculum and program improvements are ongoing at Christ the King School. The school has just completed a new Strategic Plan to ensure the continued vitality of our school for years to come. Participants in the process represented many areas of our parish and school community and examined a variety of indices of the school's growth and improvement. This plan will provide a clear path to a bright future for our school.
We inspire a love of learning in students and believe in the importance of lifelong learning for all. CKS teachers have many opportunities to attend workshops and seminars, and they pursue graduate coursework to remain current in best practices. As a faculty, curriculum alignment is a priority. From kindergarten to first, from first to second, and on up through the grades, our goal is to give our students a top-notch Catholic education that prepares them for success in high school and beyond.
