School Counseling Program

The counseling department at Christ the King School supports the mission of the school by providing academic support as well as social, spiritual, and emotional guidance for students.  Counseling services provided at Christ the King School are as follows:

Academic Support

  • Organizational, study, and test-taking skills.
  • Classroom accommodations are provided for those students who have a psycho-educational evaluation on file.
  • Referrals for educational evaluations, tutoring, or other services.
  • A partnership is created between school counselors and resource teachers to provide academic success for every student.
  • Organize and attend parent/teacher meetings.
  • Student Success Team (SST)
    • The School Counselors and Curriculum Coordinator work in tandem to advocate for and provide additional educational support to meet a child’s individual needs, to initiate and implement goals and strategies, and to monitor progress towards these goals.

Personal and Social/Emotional Support

  • Classroom guidance lessons are taught six times a year at each grade level.  Topics include growth mindset, how to be a good friend, the world of work, and more.
  • Responsive services such as individual counseling, small group counseling, conflict resolution, and outside counseling referrals are provided.
  • Guidance is given for healthy peer relationships, coping strategies, effective social skills, problem solving, and conflict resolution.

Career Development

  • Speakers from the Greater Atlanta area, as well as past and present CKS parents, participate in our annual Career Day for 8th Grade students. 

Other Supports

  • Standardized Testing
    • Counselors organize and facilitate the testing of the Iowa Assessment and Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT).
    • Seventh grade students are identified for Duke TIP through the counseling department.
    • Counselors provide information on the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT).
  • Admissions
    • Assists in the admissions testing process for prospective students.
    • Counselors, in conjunction with the Director of Admissions, manage the Student Ambassador program for grades 2-8. Each new 2nd-8th grade student to CKS receives a trained Student Ambassador who assists with assimilating our new students.
