Religion at CKSThe goal of the religion curriculum is to support and encourage formation of the whole person in the development of their faith. At CKS, we know that growth in faith is more than growth intellectual knowledge and understanding, and requires opportunities to encounter Jesus, the source and summit of our faith.
To that end, we offer developmentally appropriate catechesis grounded in the deposit of faith of the Catholic Church. Classroom instruction follows the Archdiocese of Atlanta Religion Curriculum Guidelines to assure that the major components of Catholic tradition are covered at each grade level. This classroom instruction is strengthened by regular opportunities for prayer within the school day. PrayerIn order to offer consistent opportunities to encounter God and grow in relationship with him, the whole school comes together at least once a month for an all school Mass in the Cathedral. There are also periodic Masses for both K-5 and 6-8. In addition to Mass, the whole school gathers for All School Rosaries. The sacrament of Reconciliation is offered to the entire school both in the Fall and Spring. Within each religion class period, there are also consistent opportunities for personal prayer through journaling, scripture reflection, both with music and in silence.
Each year, middle school students are given a unique opportunity to participate in a class retreat off campus in the fall. Eighth graders, as the leaders of the school, participate in a retreat both in the fall and in the spring. CKS is also passionate about offering opportunities for parents and students to pray together. Parents are encouraged to attend School Masses. The school also offers grade level parent and student retreats to attend together during the school day. |
It is by the Heart of my Jesus, my Way, my Truth,
and my Life, that I approach you, O Eternal Father.” --St. Marguerite d’Youville |
Sacramental Preparation
CKS supports and partners with the Cathedral of Christ the King Parish in sacramental preparation. Our second grade classrooms provide the catechesis for our Catholic students receive their first reconciliation and first communion, and provide the dates and times for all meetings at the parish related to reception of these important sacraments.
Students in second grade participate in 8th grade led First Reconciliation and First Communion retreats during the school day as well.
We are also committed to supporting any students or family members of our students interested in becoming Catholic or catching up on any sacraments that may have been delayed or missed.

Service
Inspired by the example of St. Marguerite d’Youville, the “Mother of Universal Charity,” our school is committed to integrating service into all aspects of our school curriculum. All of our students, from K-8, take on signature service themes based on the Works of Mercy. Students do hands-on service projects and take part in service learning projects throughout the year. Our goal is for students to graduate CKS committed to lifelong service.
Christ the King also has a robust parent organization called CKS Serves, which provides CKS students and their families with service opportunities outside of the school day so our children can help those in need and learn the value of service to others.
